Dental implants are replacement tooth roots made of titanium. Implants provide a strong foundation for fixed (permanent) or removable replacement teeth that are made to match your natural teeth. Instead of individual crowns, some patients may have attachments on their implants that support a removable denture.
After the placement and stability test of dental implants by a periodontist or oral surgeon, the specialist will refer the patient to Dr. Z for restoration. Dr. Z will remove the healing cap, place the impression coping and take an x-ray to make sure everything fits properly. Then she will take an impression to make a custom abutment with a crown already attached to it by the lab called Scrementable crown.
Custom abutments are prosthetic components that connect directly to endosseous dental implants and are intended for use as an aid in the prosthetic rehabilitation of missing teeth. Titanium, gold alloy, or zirconia with a titanium base.
With a “screwmentable” solution, a custom abutment is designed to support a cementable restoration, but the crown is created with a screw access hole. The cementation portion of restoration delivery — as well as cleanup of any excess cement — is performed outside of the patient’s mouth.
If you’re considering dental implants but are worried about the fit, our dental office in Plano, TX, can provide you with custom abutments for your implants.
